After Speaking to Dozens of Brothers, Here’s the Pattern Nobody Talks About

August 11, 20263 min read

After speaking to dozens of brothers, I’ve noticed a pattern that nobody seems to be talking about when it comes to marriage.

The average practicing brother — and I’m talking about the brother who fasts, stays away from haram, doesn’t date, drink, or smoke — can find himself stuck in a never-ending cycle when it comes to getting married.

And unfortunately, this cycle can continue for years, whether he has been married before or not.

Why?

Because many brothers have gone through life believing that in order to be a good husband, they simply need to build a good career and become a good provider.

But nobody taught them that being a good provider goes far beyond monetary support — especially in 2026, when many women are capable of providing for themselves financially.

Before I share these patterns, I want to make something very clear:

I’m not here to shame anyone.

I’m here to bring awareness.

If you’re a bachelor looking to get married, consider this a quick self-audit. Take an honest look at yourself and see whether any of these patterns might be holding you back.

Pattern #1: The Search for the Prettiest Sister

This is one of the biggest issues I see.

And sisters, notice that I said most — not all.

Many brothers are on a quest to find the prettiest sister they can marry.

The problem isn't being attracted to your future wife. Attraction matters.

The problem is when physical attraction becomes the primary criteria, and more important qualities — like values, character, compatibility, and deen — become secondary.

A beautiful face may catch your attention, but it isn't what will make a marriage work for the long term.

Pattern #2: They Don't Know What They're Attracted To Beyond Looks

This ties directly into the first pattern.

Many brothers haven't taken the time to understand what they are actually attracted to beyond physical appearance.

What qualities in a woman make you admire her?

What kind of character draws you in?

What kind of woman brings out the best version of you?

Answering these questions requires self-reflection — and, more importantly, purification of the heart.

Because sometimes we need to learn to recognize what Allah has made beautiful beyond what the lower self, the nafs, tells us is beautiful (i.e. the looks).

Pattern #3: Nobody Teaches Men How to Be Husbands

Nobody really tells brothers how to be a good husband.

They simply tell them to get married.

Our communities aren't doing enough to groom men for the responsibility of becoming husbands, fathers, and leaders of their families.

At best, the average masjid might dedicate one Jumu'ah khutbah to marriage and perhaps host one marriage event a year.

But who is actually teaching men how to be good husbands?

Being a good husband requires an entirely different skill set — one that goes far beyond career achievements or financial success.

Who is teaching men how to:

  • Listen to their wives?

  • Navigate and diffuse arguments?

  • Communicate when emotions are high?

  • Set healthy boundaries with in-laws?

  • Create financial goals for their families?

  • Lead with mercy, wisdom, and emotional maturity?

These are skills.

And like any skill, they have to be learned and practiced.

This is one of the reasons I started Sacred Soulmates.

I didn't see enough of our communities intentionally preparing the bachelors of our ummah to become the husbands, fathers, and leaders our families need.

Getting married is not the finish line. It's the beginning of a responsibility.

And if we want stronger marriages, we have to start preparing people for marriage before they walk down the aisle.

If you're looking for help on your marriage journey that goes beyond simply finding a random match, I'm looking to work with 7 brothers and 7 sisters this September who are serious about building strong marriages that uplift the ummah.

Apply to be part of the change that the ummah needs.

Applications close September 9, 2026. Apply today at: sacredsoulmates.co/cohort
